The Publix Escape to Miami Triathlon boasts the most unique and challenging course in Florida, and some might say the country. The first tri in South Florida’s history to abandon athletes on an island has become a national phenomenon after its three years of existence. Don't wait to register to compete, it does close out!

The sun rises over Biscayne Bay and you are embarking on an early morning boat ride. All is calm on your voyage to Escape Island until…ABANDON SHIP!!!

After jumping ship and swimming to Escape Island, you and 999 other athletes prepare to embark on the most challenging and exhilarating race, the Publix Escape to Miami Triathlon. The race of your life lies ahead of you.

Swim (.9 Mile/ 1.4 KM)
Starts on Escape Island and heads back to Miami in the open waters of Biscayne Bay north of the Venetian and MacArthur Causeways. Land ashore at Margaret Pace Park and head to the transition as hundreds of fans cheer you on.

Mass Start:
The Publix Escape to Miami implements a mass open water start on the shore of Escape Island.

Wetsuits:
Wetsuits will NOT be allowed. Water temperature is expected to be above 78°. This is in accordance with USAT guidelines.

Bike (24.8 Mile/ 40 KM)
The bike course takes you over the ocean on a straightaway into Miami Beach using the Julia Tuttle Causeway. The two lap course provides you with a challenge as you climb the causeway while remaining within view of Escape Island. This portion of the course requires you climb the causeway's bridges 8 times, this where the better riders are separated from the rookies. The course also includes a ride through Miami’s revamped Wynwood Design District and past some of Miami Beach’s well known mansions along Alton Road.

Run (6.2 Mile/ 10 KM)
The course takes you past the Carnival Performing Arts Center and Miami Herald buildings, two of Miami's signature architectural landmarks. You then begin the climb over the MacArthur Causeway, running along cruise ship row and Hibiscus & Palm Island mansions. You'll make your turn around at Star Island, home of Miami's rich and famous. As you complete your run back over over the bridge, you will have one last glimpse on to your right of where it all started, Escape Island.

Finish (Margaret Pace Park)

Cut-Off Times:
Swim
Out of the Swim Transition to head out for the bike by 8:40 a.m.
(or 1 hr. and 10 min. from start time)

Bike
Out of Bike Transition to head out for the run by 10:40 a.m.
(or 3 hrs. and 10 min. from start time)

Finish
At the finish line by 12 p.m.
(or 4 hrs. and 30 min. from start time)

Finishers of the Publix Escape to Miami Triathlon before the 12 p.m. (or 4 hours and 30 minutes) will receive a finisher’s medal.

Warning
Warning: The swim can be a difficult trek because currents and wind can aggrevate the calm waters of Biscayne Bay and part of the course does traverse the Intra Coastal Waterway - many triathletes do not make the swim cut-off. In addition, we must warn you that the bike can also be a challenging ride because of winds that normally come from the east or wip off of the bay. And the run is also nothing to take for granted, as it also has an incline and limited shade. There is a reason why some triathletes have referred to this as the hardest triathlon they have ever done (some have said it is as hard as a half iron distance race).
